The Winter Gardens Blackpool is one of the most prestigious entertainment, event and conferencing venues in Europe hosting over 300 events every year, we look for dedicated individuals to join our teams to help to continue to offer an excellent level of service.

Blackpool Entertainment Company Limited (BECL) is a wholly owned company of Blackpool Council and was formed in June 2014 to manage and operate the Winter Gardens on behalf of the Council. The Blackpool Conference and Exhibition Centre (BCEC) will open in 2020 and will be a purpose built centre with state of the art facilities for the 21st Century located adjacent to Leopold Grove within the Winter Gardens complex. The addition of this facility marks a step change in the development of the Winter Gardens and Blackpool as a whole.


Commercial Director  

Contract Type: Permanent

Hours: 40 hours per week

Salary: £60,000 - £74,000

Blackpool Winter Gardens is one of the UK’s largest and most iconic entertainment and conference centres.

Situated in the heart of the country’s most popular seaside resort, it comprises multiple venues including the Empress Ballroom, the Opera House Theatre conference facilities and an extraordinary collection of function and exhibition spaces.

During its glorious 140-year history, it has hosted some of the biggest names in show business as well as staging major party political conferences, West End shows and international events. It is the home of the world’s biggest ballroom dance competition.

With an extensive programme of refurbishment underway and the imminent opening of a new £28m state-of-the-art conference and exhibition centre, its operating company, Blackpool Entertainment Company Ltd, is looking to make senior appointments to help take the Winter Gardens into the next phase of its development and secure its place as a key driver of Blackpool’s economy.

The new position of Commercial Director will report directly to the Managing Director and be accountable to the company board.

The Commercial Director will develop and deliver the commercial strategy for the Winter Gardens and oversee the events programming. Candidates will have significant commercial experience and business acumen, ideally gained in an entertainment, programming or venue context. The successful applicant will be an excellent communicator as well as showing inspirational leadership qualities.

Remuneration will be commensurate with the importance and seniority attached to the post and ranges from £60,000 to £74,000.

The post-holder will lead and manage the activities of the Operations Management Team in order to ensure the venue meets and exceeds the leading-edge offers of other similar venues, while also identifying and optimising revenue opportunities and operational efficiencies.

Remuneration for this role will be commensurate with the importance and seniority attached to this post and ranges from £60,000 to £74,000.
